MULTICULTURALISM , GLOBALIZATION & CROSSCULTURAL MEETINGS

With globalization comes cross cultural meetings and sometimes culture shocks. There exist methods and approaches that have the purpose of creating more understanding between different groups and cultures. The Intercultural perspective ( intercultural communication and learning ) are approaches that are valuable to be able to move well in today's society and teach in an international contemporary context or general multicultural class. As a dance pedagogue working in an international and multicultural context, it's important to understand how culture shapes us, how we can interpretate information in different ways.

The important point for our purposes is that culture interacts in a very complex way with learning and the processes of schooling more generally. Understanding something about the culturally shaped assumptions, practices, and values of students will enable a teacher to be more effective his or her own deep-seated cultural assumptions and how these might be shaping the attitude that is being adopted towards students who seem to be "different" (Philips & Soltis 2009)
